Only 1.0% of those prompts come from the buyer side. AI answers favor agency framing over platform framing 2.6 to 1. Almost none mention cost: fee or commission language appears in 1.5% of response openings, and escrow or verification in 0.8%. DTC (direct-to-consumer) brands aren&#8217;t choosing badly. Neither route is bad. Both are expensive in ways the invoice doesn&#8217;t show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zodel analyzed how DTC brands hire models in practice and what AI assistants tell them to do when they ask. Every U.S. prompt indexed by Semrush AI Prompt Research across five buyer-intent seed topics was pulled, and then the answers ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode returned were read and coded. The dataset covers 5,000 prompt-and-response pairs, 2,738 of them unique, captured August 18\u201320, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The results were lopsided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/zodel.com\/spotlight\/what-is-zodel\/\">Zodel<\/a> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/zodel.com\/spotlight\/book-models-directly-model-booking-platform\/\">model booking platform<\/a> that connects clients directly with verified professional models across the United States. Zodel ran this research because the answer layer that brands increasingly rely on is quietly reshaping who gets hired and at what cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover\"><span aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-cover__background has-contrast-background-color has-background-dim-100 has-background-dim\"><\/span><div class=\"wp-block-cover__inner-container has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-cover-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left alignwide wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Three findings, up front:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left alignwide wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Almost no answer discusses cost structure.<\/strong> Just 1.5% of AI response openings mentioned a commission or fee. It is a study of the answer layer, not a customer survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Five seed topics were pulled from Semrush AI Prompt Research (U.S., all AI platforms, data as of August 18, 2026): <em>how do DTC brands hire models<\/em>, <em>where do brands find models for ad campaigns<\/em>, <em>ecommerce model photography<\/em>, <em>brand model casting budget<\/em>, and <em>DTC brand marketing<\/em>. Each seed returned up to 1,000 indexed prompts with the assistant&#8217;s response opening, the number of brands named, and the number of sources cited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keyword volume and difficulty figures cited below come from Semrush Keyword Overview (U.S. database, retrieved August 20, 2026). That is a deliberate limitation and also the point. The opening is the fragment most likely to surface as an AI Overview snippet, so it is the part that shapes a brand&#8217;s first impression before anyone clicks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Platform distribution across the 5,000 rows: Google AI Overviews 51.0%, Gemini 17.5%, Google AI Mode 15.9%, and ChatGPT 15.6%. Prompts were classified as model-side (supply), buyer-side (demand), or other, using keyword rules applied to the prompt text. All figures below are reproducible from the same exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One caveat worth stating plainly. This is prompt and response data, not spend data. It tells you what the market is asking and being told.
